Conference Schedule and Locations
Arrival in Sacramento on Tuesday
If you are flying to the conference, be sure to reserve a flight that arrives at Sacramento International Airport by 11 a.m. You can always get something to eat or go to your hotel for a possible early check-in if you are running early for the Tuesday Afternoon Session. (CLCA is not providing lunch on this day.)
Tuesday Afternoon Session
The conference begins at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22. After a brief orientation, various speakers will cover why it’s important for businesses to engage in grass roots lobbying, how to approach and maintain a relationship with a legislator, and CLCA’s high priority legislation.
Tuesday Evening Reception and Dinner
The afternoon session will be followed by a hosted reception and dinner at Lucca Restaurant & Bar. One or more legislators will be invited to join CLCA members for this intimate social occasion and perhaps make a few remarks as well as field questions from the audience.
Overnight Lodging
CLCA Headquarters can make reservations for out-of-town members at the Holiday Inn Express.
Wednesday Morning Session
The conference continues at the Sheraton at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23. Speakers from several state agencies will discuss the underground economy, licensing issues, water conservation, and other topics at this time. Strategy for the afternoon’s scheduled meetings with legislators will be explained, including how to get around the Capitol building and the pairing of first-time conference participants with more experienced participants.
Wednesday Luncheon
At 12 noon the conference participants will move to another room at the Sheraton for lunch. CLCA plans to present its Legislator of the Year Award at the luncheon.
Wednesday Afternoon Session
Following lunch at approximately 1:30 p.m., the conference participants will take a short walk to the Capitol, where they will participate in pre-scheduled meetings with their legislators or the staff members of those legislators. No participant should feel that he or she must be an “expert” for these meetings, since CLCA’s lobbyist and staff will provide briefing materials and other handouts on key issues.
Event Conclusion and Departure from Sacramento on Wednesday
The Capitol meetings are expected to run from about 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Conference participants who are flying to and from the event should reserve a return flight for no earlier than 6 p.m. If you would like to have dinner (at your cost) in Sacramento before your flight, consider making an airline reservation for a departure no earlier than 7:30 p.m.
