CLCA In The Nation's Capital
Members of the California Landscape Contractors Association made two trips to Washington, D.C. in March to lobby for comprehensive immigration reform. Members of Congress were very interested to hear the "real world" views of their constituents.
Attendees called on Congress to approve legislation that would:
- Provide for a guest worker program that would allow businesses to recruit immigrant workers when U.S. workers are not available.
- Not impose unworkable enforcement systems with harsh and unreasonable penalties for employers.
- Allow the approximately 11 million undocumented workers currently in the United States (4 to 5 percent of the U.S. workforce) to be able to stay and earn a path to citizenship.
- Respect immigrants who are working to become citizens.
