Xeriscaping
If a total change of scenery is what your looking for, xeriscaping may be the solution. Pronounced “ZEER-is-caping,” it literally comes from the Greek words "xeri" meaning dry; and "scape" meaning a kind of scene. Its general practice and methods have been around for years in desert climates and is a practice becoming very popular in California, a state with an increasingly limited water supply. It relies on using more native drought tolerant plants and more water and waste efficient landscapes. In fact, xeriscaping has been endorsed by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) as a water and waste reducing alternative landscaping method. By consulting with a landscape designer, you can create a landscape with lots of planting options that in the long run will require less water, less maintenance and save valuable landfill space.
